Description:
We are looking for a machine learning (ML) engineer interested in building ML and deep learning (DL) systems to increase autonomy in aviation. Someone who enjoys researching state of the art ML and DL systems and finding ways to make them excel at unique use cases within aviation. Someone ready to work at the intersection of research and product development. Someone who is excited to work on a small team and own a significant portion of one of our ML based pipelines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS in Computer Science, Robotics, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, or a related subject. MS preferred.
- experience in at least one of the following areas of machine learning: deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision.
- Proven experience producing model(s) to perform specified task(s) and evaluating the model(s) to determine performance. Has knowledge of the standard model development process.
- Fluency in python and either PyTorch or Tensorflow.
- Experience with linux, open source development tools, software development process and version control tools such as git and weights and biases.

Responsibilities:
- Model development for various aviation related applications which utilize systems such as natural language processing and computer vision.
- Understand the use cases, research and select models, build and maintain training pipelines, run experiments, work with the data team to source and manipulate data as needed to improve model performance.
- Track and document model performance and experiments along with reporting key results to a wider audience.
- Write inference pipelines to deploy models to autonomy systems on Merlin aircrafts.
- Work with a larger project team to understand high level requirements that impact the needs of the ML system.
- Generally contribute to the Merlin’s autonomous systems research and development by following our software and model development process and writing software to integrate work into the larger system.
