We are looking for an Associate Manager, Corporate Accounts Payable
Reporting to the Manager Banking & Corporate Services, this role has responsibility for the management of the Corporate Accounts Payable department, which processes all non-salary expense disbursements, with total disbursements over 1 billion annually for the Canadian Operations of Canada Life.
The successful candidate will be a team-oriented individual who builds relationships with related departments and works collaboratively on solutions that are streamlined while also being responsible to key controls that mitigate risk for the organization. The incumbent will also be a strong leader who can support and lead a team through change designed to strengthen the services we provide for our partners within the organization.
What you will do
- Follow industry best practices for Accounts Payable and apply this knowledge to optimize processes within the department.
- Review departmental processes to ensure they continue to be the best balance of meeting business need and addressing organizational risk; recommend changes where appropriate.
- Day to day oversight of Accounts Payable operations, which includes processing and disbursement of payments, escalations and management of supporting processes.
- Provide leadership for staff in the department including training and mentorship, objective setting and measuring, performance management, and coaching through change, as needed.
- Set productivity targets (efficiency and accuracy) for the department, and monitor success.
- Manage staff administration functions such as resource management, onboarding and offboarding, security access to systems and tools.
- The development and implementation of appropriate control procedures for expense related disbursements. The control procedures must meet the Internal Controls over Financial Reporting framework (ICOFR).
- Demonstration of compliance with stated controls through reporting and participation in regular audits.

What you will bring
Demonstrated strong leadership experience (5+ years).
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Solid communication skills, both verbal and written – Clear, concise, and articulate, communicates at the right level for the audience.
- Well demonstrated ability to analyze large amounts of information and data, and present analysis to others.
- Well-developed organizational and time management skills, with the ability to deal with fluctuating work volumes.
- Completion of post-secondary education. Specialization in Accounting/Finance, such as Business Administration or B. Comm or working towards a professional accounting designation would be an asset.
- Experience in a senior role in accounts payable or a related field.
- Experience with SAP is required.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint).
The base salary for this position is between $70,500 - $117,400 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
