EXPERIENCES & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in public relations or corporate communications.
  • University degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or related field preferred but not required.
  • Natural storyteller with ability to convey key messages clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent communication skills – writing, editing, speaking and presenting with a desire to develop new skills and experiment with new writing tools.
  • Strong collaborator that possesses the ability to build relationships across the business with key leaders and external stakeholders and influencers.
  • Initiative taker who can work independently within Canada with support from US team.
  • Ability to manage diverse range of issues and situations.
  • Keen eye for detail and ensuring accuracy on all published communications materials.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight timelines when required.
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills and ability to remain focused on key priorities.
  • Adaptability and ability to bring a voice of calm to issues management situations.
  • Willingness to pitch in and help fellow communications colleagues in tight-knit North American team.

SKILLS

  • Solid comprehension of written French an asset.
  • Ability to write using AP style a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Teams and SharePoint preferred.

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE

The Associate Manager Communications, Canada is part of the North America Communications & Corporate Affairs team and reports to the Head of Communications & Corporate Affairs, North America. This position is responsible for executing and coordinating corporate communications for Unilever Canada, with about 80 percent of the role being focused on internal communications. The role focuses on implementing internal communication strategies to ensure that our employees in Canada —including office, remote and factory locations—are informed and engaged, and that the company’s business goals, culture and values are represented. Additionally, the role supports external communications, as needed, in coordination and under the direction of the North America Senior Manager of External Communications. This support includes monitoring and coordinating responses for media inquiries and helping leaders in Unilever Canada vet and prepare for external speaking engagements and interviews.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor shared internal communications email accounts and take appropriate action to inquiries and requests
  • Liaison with global and functional communications colleagues, as well as administrative assistants for key internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with North America Head of C&CA to ensure tracking expenses against department budget.
  • Process purchase orders and reconcile within financial management system
  • Coordinate meetings with internal and external constituents for team as needed.
