The Opportunity
At Toll Group, we’re committed to safeguarding our organization against evolving security threats. We’re looking for a proactive Associate Penetration Tester to join our team on a fixed-term contract until the end of March 2025 with the possibility of extension or conversion to permanent. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a robust cyber defense framework, identifying vulnerabilities and enhancing our security posture through hands-on penetration testing.
Overall Purpose of the Role:
As an Associate Penetration Tester, you will be a key player in pre-empting, preventing, detecting, managing, and responding to security threats. Your role will be crucial in executing penetration tests, identifying weaknesses, and collaborating with internal teams to strengthen our defenses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Penetration Testing: Scope, initiate, and perform penetration tests across various environments, including APIs, infrastructure, web applications, wireless networks, and internal assessments.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Document and report all testing activities and findings comprehensively.
  • Investigation: Investigate findings and collaborate with internal investigation teams to enhance threat detection.
  • Collaboration: Assist senior team members with red/purple team exercises and support junior team members.
  • Threat Hunting: Contribute to threat hunting and analysis efforts.
  • Continuous Learning: Maintain and enhance specialist skills to perform advanced penetration testing within a diverse cyber ecosystem.

Measures of Success:

  • Effective execution and reporting of penetration testing activities.
  • Timely updates and scheduling of penetration tests.
  • Improved incident response and resolution times.
  • Contribution to red/purple team exercises and enhanced threat detection capabilities.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Cyber Security with a focus on penetration testing.
  • Proficiency in scoping and conducting various types of penetration tests.
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python) and hands-on experience with security tools (e.g., Nessus, Metasploit, BurpSuite).
  • Detailed knowledge of MITRE ATT&CK, network and server administration, and cyber risk management.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with ISO 27000 series or NIST Cyber Security Framework.
  • Knowledge of Operational Technology (SCADA, PLCs) and cloud infrastructure is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage multiple tasks, and thrive under pressure.
  • The successful candidate MUST be an Australian Citizen with eligibility to obtain a baseline security clearance.
