Associate Practitioner Biochemistry

Under supervision of Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered staff you will utilise the latest laboratory instrumentation to analyse and interpret blood samples in accordance with agreed protocols and standard operational procedures

The post holder is expected to work as part of a team in the Chemical pathology Blood science laboratory. After training they will be required to carry out basic laboratory procedures and provide support to the Biomedical scientists processing diagnostic specimens.

• To assist in reception of specimens and check information and providing it meets acceptance criteria prepare for analysis.
• To select test profiles according to specimen type, clinical details and collection conditions.

To perform under supervision, maintenance of the equipment to required standard as scheduled for daily, weekly and monthly maintenance.

• To run calibration and quality control under the supervision of Biomedical Scientist
• To prepare and process blood specimens according to agreed protocols, prioritising according to urgency of test and managing high volume workloads.

To perform a range of simple tests, assays and the operation of automated instruments, if appropriate, following standard operational procedures and validate according to departmental policy, with minimal guidance
