Description:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual to support our well established team of Biomedical Scientists within the Microbiology Department as a Band 4 Associate Practitioner.
The Microbiology Department provides a range of infectious science services to the NHS Trusts and General Practitioners within Dorset. We are a small sized laboratory with a great team atmosphere. As an Associate Practitioner you will participate in the laboratory testing procedures, and provide technical support to scientific staff within the department and other pathology disciplines.
The laboratory work encompasses the general Bacteriology, Parasitology, Mycology, Serology and Molecular testing.
Education to ‘A’ Levels plus GCSE in Maths and English at grades A-C (or equivalent qualifications / experience) are required. Previous experience of working in a clinical laboratory for a minimum of 1 year is required, as is a special interest in Microbiology. You should be dextrous, possess good keyboard skills, be able to prioritise, be literate and numerate, with a flexible approach work.
The Department works to a 7 days a week roster to support the essential laboratory activities and that includes this role.
Duties include assisting with sorting, registration and processing of clinical specimens; assisting the Biomedical Scientists with the subculture of organisms; processing of molecular and serology tests; assisting with administration duties including Quality Assurance and Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
Supporting the weekend roster, working approximately 1 in 4 weekends.

The Microbiology Department at Dorset County Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Practitioner in their laboratory.
The Department operational hours are currently 09:00 to 17:30, 7 days a week and therefore includes working weekend and bank holidays on a rotational basis. The laboratory team work closely in a fast paced and exciting environment to delivery results that can directly influence patient management in the hospital, general practice, or clinics across Dorset.
