We have a fantastic opportunity for an Associate, or Principal, Geotechnical/Geo-Environmental Engineer to join our growing Geo team in our Plymouth office.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, engineering, or related field.
- Sufficient and relevant experience, ideally gained in ground investigation, interpretation, and reporting.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in geoenvironmental and geotechnical consultancy.
- Working knowledge of relevant standards and regulations (BS 5930, 10175).
- Proficient in project management, financial control, and client relationship management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proactive attitude towards professional development and business growth.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrable skills in writing accurate, concise, clear, and well-constructed technical reports, reviewing the work of others, assessing the technical approach, and determining compliance with relevant guidance and the client’s requirements.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Responsibilities:
THE ROLE:
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Consultant to be the local lead in our Plymouth-based ‘Geo’ team. The ideal candidate will have 6 to 10 years of experience in geoenvironmental and geotechnical consultancy, with a strong commitment to professionalism.
As a Geo Consultant, you will be responsible for managing and co-ordinating geo assignments including (but not limited to): desk studies, ground investigations (factual and interpretative), geotechnical, human health, groundwater and gas risk assessments, and interpretative reports.
You will act as the focal point of contact with colleagues in the SW region, across the range of disciplines represented within Hydrock. You will contribute to work-winning and business development in the SW and represent Hydrock in client meetings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively pursue chartership (if not already accredited) and engage in continuous professional development.
- Procure, manage, and deliver straightforward Ground Investigations (GI), adapting to unforeseen circumstances.
- Manage site investigation works in accordance with BS 5930 and 10175, ensuring health and safety compliance and accurate data collection.
- Oversee procurement, site delivery, reporting, and financial aspects of field work contractors.
- Prepare high-quality factual reports covering environmental and geotechnical aspects, with clear interpretation supported by data.
- Support colleagues in managing complex environmental or geotechnical aspects of projects.
- Project manage own assignments with decreasing support over time, while assisting colleagues as needed.
- Manage 1-3 projects concurrently, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.
- Maintain good project financial control, promptly addressing variations and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Handle client queries professionally and promote Hydrock’s services effectively.
- Design and manage geotechnical and/or geo-environmental assignments including (but not limited to): desk studies, ground investigations (factual and interpretative to a high standard), human health, groundwater and gas risk assessments and preparation of Remediation Method Statements.
