Description:
Davies is a leading Canadian business law firm focused on high-stakes matters. Tackling their clients’ issues with clarity and efficiency, they are at the heart of the most complex deals and cases. With offices in Toronto, Montréal and New York, the firm’s capabilities extend across borders.
The firm is now seeking a trusts and estate planning lawyer with 3+ years of comparable experience to join its Private Client team. Today’s high-net-worth individuals and family offices face increasing complexities when planning for the preservation, transfer and expansion of wealth, often in a cross-border or international context. Clients rely on Davies to provide creative, customized trusts, tax and estate planning advice to address structurally complex and personally sensitive matters.
In this role you will undertake challenging work advising high-net-worth private individuals, family offices and private companies on strategic matters including all types of private wealth trusts, commercial trusts, estate planning structures, structures to effect charitable and philanthropic giving, trusts and fiduciary arrangements. We are looking for a candidate with experience in a high-calibre private client, family office and/or trusts and estate practice acquired at a national law firm, accounting firm or specialized boutique law firm. The right candidate has a commitment to exceeding client expectations, enjoys intellectual challenges and finding creative solutions for clients, as well as the ability to efficiently manage multiple projects simultaneously. Professionalism, excellent written and oral communication skills, judgment and diplomacy will be essential. We are looking for someone with the following qualifications:
Experience structuring and drafting trusts, wills and powers of attorney
Experience with reorganizations undertaken for strategic tax and succession planning purposes
Familiarity with cross-border issues and post-mortem estate and tax planning is an asset
Candidates must be a member of the Québec bar; STEP membership will be considered an asset
