Description:

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.
The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) at the University of Luxembourg contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences and Medicine. Through its dual mission of teaching and research, the FSTM seeks to generate and disseminate knowledge and train new generations of responsible citizens in order to better understand, explain and advance society and environment we live in.
The Department of Engineering (DoE) is a dynamic, interdisciplinary group engaged in civil, electrical and mechanical engineering, driving forward innovative research and solutions. It also has an internationally leading profile in computational science and engineering. We develop cutting-edge technologies, promoting the sustainable and economical use of resources, and meeting the technological demands of Luxembourg, the Greater Region, and beyond. Nearly all research projects are supported by a network of national and international partnerships, several with public or industrial stakeholders. At the University, the Department cooperates across faculties and with the interdisciplinary centres. In particular, the new interdisciplinary centre focused on complex environmental systems opens up significant opportunities for future collaborations.

The Department of Engineering of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine seeks an outstanding candidate in Digital Methods in Construction to strengthen the Research Area in Civil and Environmental Engineering. We are looking for a candidate enthusiastic about teaching in a diverse student community and an excellent researcher in their field. The candidate should be eager to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations, both with academic and industrial partners.
The ideal candidate should enhance the Department of Engineering ‘s capabilities in digital methods in construction. The candidate should set-up an internationally leading research group in this area. This includes (but is not restricted) to research fields related to novel methods and technics in construction, such as digital twins, metaverse, BIM, sensor networks for tracking data or tracing structural components and construction robotics. These will be data-driven and explore the opportunities deriving from AI and machine-learning. Experience in construction management is regarded as an asset.

In addition, the candidate will:

  • Contribute to teaching in the Bachelor in Engineering and Master in Civil Engineering Sciences, specifically to courses such as Construction and Project Management, BIM or Advanced Digital Methods in Construction
  • Support the trinational “European Construction Management” bachelor’s programme in collaboration with HTW Saar and Université de Lorraine
  • Contribute to the Department’s scientific strategy, in particular to its visibility, performance and impact
