DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Political Philosophy, with established expertise in healthcare or health policy. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.
Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Philosophy or a closely related field, with a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Applicants for this position must specialize in Political Philosophy, and they must have established research expertise that relates to healthcare or health policy. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. Candidates will have an established international reputation and be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research at the highest international level, and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below), as well as strong letters of reference.
Candidates must also show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and to the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment, as demonstrated through the application materials.
Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The University of Toronto has three campuses, St. George, Scarborough, and Mississauga, each with its own Department of Philosophy offering undergraduate programs. The advertised position is at the Scarborough Campus. The Graduate Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto is a tri-campus department, consisting of philosophy faculty appointed on all three campuses. Graduate teaching and supervision typically take place on the St. George campus.
