Description:
Org. Setting and Reporting
These two positions are located in the Division of Market Development (DMD) in the Strategies and Policy for Trade and Investment (SPTI) Section. SPTI assists chambers of commerce and other business organizations in articulating business views to ensure that trade and investment negotiations, national policies and regulatory reforms all reflect a well-informed business perspective. In addition, SPTI assists policymakers in ensuring that this business perspective is factored into the adoption and modernization of guidance documents, policies, legal and regulatory frameworks. SPTI also helps trade and investment negotiators understand this business perspective. The focus of the job is to support the development, implementation and monitoring of designated projects.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Officer Business and Trade Policy, and the overall supervision of the Chief, SPTI, the Associate Programme Officers will be responsible for the following duties: • Assisting the work with key clients to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned trade and investment policy related programmes/projects, etc.; monitors and analyzes specific aspects of programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and recommends corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions. • Provides assistance for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including the review and analysis of emerging issues and trends, participation in evaluations or research activities and studies. • Assists in performing consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change. • Assists in survey initiatives; assists with design of data collection tools; issues data collection tools, reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares preliminary conclusions. • Contributes to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. • Provides administrative and substantive support to workshops, trainings, consultations and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposed participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc. • Participates in field missions, including provision of substantive and administrative support, data collection, etc. • Performs other duties as required.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, or a related field such as international trade. Note: A first level degree in business administration, management, economics or a related field such as international trade may be accepted with an additional two years of relevant professional work experience.

A minimum of two years (four with a first level degree) of relevant experience in project/programme management, or related area is required Experience in trade policy is desirable Experience in supporting trade related technical assistance projects in developing countries is desirable.
