Description:

The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan. CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions.
The Quantum Materials Spectroscopy Centre (QMSC) beamline uses a unique dual-undulator as the source for investigating novel and fundamentally important materials in condensed matter physics. Both undulators are elliptically polarizing, allowing for an arbitrary orientation of light polarization. They cover separate energy ranges to maximize the spectral flux over the complete range available (15-1200 eV) for the endstations. The two beamline endstations are designed for angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) and spin-resolved photoemission (Spin + ARPES) experiments.
CLSI is now accepting applications for an Associate Scientist or Scientist position within our Materials and Chemical Sciences department on the QMSC Beamline. We seek highly experienced, self-motivated individuals committed to scientific excellence that display adaptability to interdisciplinary collaborations, a proactive approach to instrumentation and problem-solving, and effective communication skills. CLSI encourages candidates with diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply, as we value the unique perspectives and contributions they bring to our dynamic research environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • For the Associate Scientist level, a relevant undergraduate or Master’s degree is required. For the Scientist level, a relevant Master’s degree or Ph.D. in the physical sciences or engineering is required.
  • A minimum of two years’ of directly related experience with a Master’s degree, or a minimum of one year of related experience with a Ph.D. degree.
  • Experience in angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) is a requirement.
  • Experiences with ultrahigh vacuum systems, advanced instrument development, and x-ray optics would be considered strong assets, but are not required.
  • Basic programming skills in python or C++ is an asset.
  • Candidates should demonstrate a clear aptitude for research, particularly in programs requiring collaboration.
Salary Range: The Salary Range is $69,880 - $94,544 (Associate), $82,278 - $111,318 (Scientist). Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Remuneration: Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefits package, including supplemental health & dental, life insurance, pension plan, and four weeks’ vacation is part of a competitive compensation package.
To Apply: Submit a cover letter and resume along with references, in confidence, online at www.lightsource.ca/careers. Applications will be accepted until August 5, 2024. While all applicants are thanked for their interest, only short-listed candidates will be contacted.
