Job Description:
Venator is recruiting for an Associate Scientist to join the Innovation Team at Wynyard on a fixed term basis.
Reporting to the Global Surface Coatings Product & Applications Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the activities of technical teams and contribute technical expertise to the delivery of product and application development projects that improve business performance and increase the company’s technical knowledge base.
Job responsibilities include:
- To design, lead, plan and carry out novel and specialised experimental work programmes to deliver projects that enable business growth and to expand the company technology base
- To be the technical lead within product development project teams and to support the governance of development projects through the New Venture Process or customer collaborative projects
- To synthesise and evaluate new pigments, additives and application formulations to support the development of new product ventures from the laboratory to plant scale.
- To plan and communicate progress of development activities to key stakeholders to ensure alignment with commercial and manufacturing priorities.
- To participate in customer understanding and collaborative programmes to gain insight into customer needs and advances in applications technology, and to generate ideas for the innovation pipeline
- To keep abreast of technical developments in the area of surface coatings to ensure that application formulations and test methods are state of the art and in line with market needs.
- To capture and share technical knowledge to support portfolio development activities from concept development through to introduction of new products and repositioning of existing ones
- To provide technical expertise and advice, both in existing and new areas of study to support business development activities.
- To ensure experimental design and equipment used is fit-for-purpose to deliver optimised high-quality results in a safe and efficient manner.
- To develop personal expertise in the science and technology of TiO2 and its applications, acquiring assistance and support from internal and external resources as required for project delivery
- To carry out all duties at all times to be in compliance with all Venator EHS, Product Stewardship, SOX and Business Conduct policies and guidelines
Candidate requirements:
- Minimum of a Degree, or equivalent, in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or other related science subject.
Essential
- Experience of carrying out laboratory research and development studies
- Well-developed technical problem-solving skills
- Excellent organisation, communication and teamwork skills
Desirable
- Experience in the chemical industry or in closely-related sectors
- Knowledge of pigment science and/or applications (Printing Inks, Surface Coatings, Paints)
- Project management experience
