HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week

COMPENSATION: $34.74 to $36.86 per hour
EFFECTIVE DATE: As soon as possible

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CYW or equivalent in education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with youth and their families with social, emotional and behavioural problems including knowledge of youth justice issues and cognitive behavioural therapy.

  • Meaningfully engages youth and families and collaborates to facilitate positive change.

  • Takes personal responsibility for enhancing performance and accountability from both an individual and collective perspective.
  • Demonstrates strong engagement skills using a strengths-based approach and partners with client/family in treatment planning, goal setting and anticipated outcomes.
  • Recognizes, initiates and adapts to changing conditions and situations in the workplace.
  • Demonstrates awareness for the backgrounds, values, beliefs and traditions of staff, clients, families and communities we serve.
  • Continuously assesses and challenges assumptions, personal unconscious bias and commits to understanding diverse perspectives, experiences and their intersectionality.
  • Commits to ongoing training to build the knowledge, awareness and skills that contribute to a creating a culturally safe environment for staff, clients and families.
  • Competency and effective use of database and Microsoft Office systems.
  • Confident, articulate and professional when communicating verbally and in writing.
  • French language is an asset.

Responsibilities:

To provide leadership, role modelling and skills building activities to youth referred to the Attendance Centre by the Youth Justice system as an alternative to custody. To meet individually with youth to assist them in developing or modifying their thinking to influence behaviour in a positive manner and to develop or enhance coping skills.

  • Conduct, with the youth, their family (if appropriate), and the Probation Case Manager, an assessment of the needs of the youth and develop an individual treatment program.
  • Provide individual and group programming using evidence based/informed practices.
  • Work collaboratively with professionals from other agencies who deliver specialized programming through the Attendance Centre.
  • Liaise with probation officers and other members of the Youth Justice system.
