JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen interest in audience behaviour and digital media trends.
  • Proficiency in analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Chartbeat, or similar platforms.
  • 1-2 Years’ Experience in media analytics or audience/community development is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate data insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to thrive in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL for querying databases and extracting relevant insights is a plus. If not, the candidate must be keen to pick up on-the-job under guidance.
  • Prior experience in the news industry or interest in financial news will be a plus

ABOUT THE ROLE

Singapore’s only financial daily, The Business Times (BT), is the authoritative guide on local, regional and international business markets. In addition to corporate news and commentary, BT covers the startup, wealth, property, lifestyle and SME scenes, and tells you what you need to know about Asean and the world. It also has a young audience initiative known as Thrive. BT is part of SPH Media.
We are seeking a dedicated Audience Specialist to join our growing Audience team at The Business Times. This role will focus on leveraging newsroom analytics to optimise content strategy and enhance audience engagement. As an Audience Specialist, you will collaborate closely with the newsroom’s Data Analyst to develop insightful reports and tools that drive editorial decisions and audience growth initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilise newsroom analytics tools and basic SQL queries to track, analyse, and report on audience engagement metrics across digital platforms.
  • Monitor real-time data to identify emerging trends and audience preferences, enabling content optimization and audience expansion.
  • Work closely with data analysts to plan, scope, and execute data studies aimed at deepening audience understanding.
  • Collaborate with editors and content producers to develop data-informed strategies for content creation and distribution.
  • Provide regular reports and actionable insights to editorial teams, to improve newsroom data fluency and guide decisions on content development and promotion of news events.
  • Support the implementation of audience growth initiatives based on data insights.
