  • Good operational knowledge of professional sound equipment and developments in programme making methods.
  • Technical ability to adapt to a wide range of programmes.
  • Ability to use common corporate computer applications and familiarity with current file formats (eg. Flac/WAV/MP3, etc.) and associated processes (e.g. FTP/Ingester etc)
  • Good aural judgement and critical listening ability enabling the appraisal of audio in terms of quality.

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE

BBC Cymru Wales has an unrivalled reputation for production and programme making in Wales and beyond. This is an opportunity to join our highly skilled Operations Department who create, edit and deliver a range of programmes and content for broadcast and other platforms using our purpose-built contemporary facilities.
The Operations Department are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Audio team as Audio Assistant. This role will assist with opening our studios and assist with aspects of sound operations at our Carmarthen site. The position is part time, 12 hours per month (in line with our Managing Working Patterns Policy, any callout will be rostered as a minimum of 4 hours and will be paid at basic rate up to 35 hours). The postholder is required to be flexible in terms of times of the day they could be called upon to open a facility and the ability to work across various productions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

The main responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Opening of unattended studio
  • Set up of radio mixing desk ready for use by self op presenter or guest
  • Set up and operation of radio playout system (Dira) and Cart wall for by self op presenter or guest
  • Recording and replaying material from digital and analogue sources.
  • Microphone/sound level set up and checks
  • Remote Technology set up (Zoom/Teams)
  • Basic set up for TV Bookings inc camera and sound.
