Responsibilities:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic audiologist (Grade 4) to join the project team of the first UK National Eye Health and Hearing Study (uknehs.org.uk), for Phase 2 that involves measuring sensory health among a sample of 750 randomly selected adults in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, commencing in late Summer/Autumn 2024.
The Project Management Group is hosted by the Vision and Eye Research Institute (VERI) at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. VERI is part of the new School of Medicine. In the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF2014) review, VERI’s profile was rated ‘World Leading, ‘Internationally Excellent’ and ‘International’.
You’ll work within a multi-disciplinary research team on this project that investigates the prevalence of vision and hearing loss in the population, the barriers to uptake of care, and the scope of existing care pathways to meet known and unmet demand. You will be expected to interact effectively with stakeholders across the public sector, charitable and academic spheres, and will need considerable leadership skills that also involves managing a fieldwork team involved in community-based data collection.
With a degree in audiology, you’ll have experience of working with patients and the public. You will need to have an enthusiastic and flexible approach and good interpersonal and negotiating skills. The fieldwork for this study is in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and several months will be spent in different community-based research sites, therefore the ideal applicant will live in/close to this area and needs to be able to drive. The work will involve hearing assessments and quantitative/qualitative measurements with supervision of a technician and administrator. Hours of work may extend into evenings or occasionally into weekends (with commensurate reduction in weekday activity), depending on availability of the population sample, therefore the applicant should be prepared to be flexible with working hours.
Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Rupert Bourne, Professor of Ophthalmology at rupert.bourne@aru.ac.ukor on 07931 541295
