AUDIT COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP
The District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) is seeking a community member with financial expertise and business knowledge to serve on its Audit Committee for a three-year term. The DSBN is one of the largest public boards in Ontario. As a public education provider, we offer a full range of programs and services to learners across the Niagara region. We have 95 schools serving approximately 30,000 elementary students and 16,000 secondary students daily.
The Audit Committee is comprised of three Trustees and two independent members from the community. The primary role of the Audit Committee is to assist the Board of Trustees in fulfilling their duties related to governance and oversight.
Reviews and recommendations in the following areas:
- the DSBN’s financial reporting process
- the DSBN’s internal control framework
- the DSBN’s internal and external audit processes
- the DSBN’s processes for risk assessment and risk management
Candidate Eligibility:
- Applicants must have accounting, senior financial management or other relevant business expertise to understand the accounting and auditing standards applicable to the DSBN.
- The applicant must not be a current employee or officer of the DSBN or of any other district school board or school authority.
- The applicant must not have a parent, child or spouse currently employed by the DSBN.
The Committee usually meets the second Tuesday of the month, three times a year; September, November, and June from 5:30-7:30pm. Information will be provided to all committee members to clarify the roles and responsibilities of audit committees for the school board sector.
