As a result of continued growth, PermaCorp has an opportunity for an AutoCAD Designer to join our team in Calgary, AB! While we are open to remotely located applicants, preference will be given to candidates located within the Calgary area.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are currently looking for an AutoCAD Designer that will be responsible for preparing plans and technical drawings for large custom railings multi-unit/retail projects, sketches, calculations, quotations, specification sheets and other data. The successful candidate has a strong technical understanding of the railing manufacturing industry and has the ability to work both independently and within a team to achieve targets in a timely manner. This position will report into a Senior Designer based out of Calgary, AB, and indirectly to the Design Manager based out of our Head Office within Edmonton.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3 years of AutoCAD detailing experience (intermediate level)
  • 1-3 years of Revit experience (intermediate level)
  • Sheet metal design experience considered an asset.
  • Construction, Engineering or Architectural degree or diploma.
  • Proficiency in Windows Office Suite.
  • Extensive knowledge of aluminum railing products manufacturing an asset.
  • Ability to work under pressure and critical timelines.
  • Understanding of commercial construction, specifically multi-family.
  • Ability to pull apart drawings and technical specs with a solid understanding of trade scope of work.
  • Ability to learn new software if required.

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the design and preparation of detailed electronic (CAD) working plans, charts and/or scale drawings for large projects from observation, measurements, sketches, and specifications.
  • Add details to architectural plans.
  • Make computations to determine layout of charts, strength of materials and requirements for structural design.
  • Interpret and read IFC/IFT or structural drawings and specifications to issue preliminary drawings or connection details for assigned projects.
  • Issue RFI request emails to project management staff regarding design issues due to site conditions or guidance on items not covered in the IFC.
  • Issue glass and material takeoff regarding hardware and parts for assigned projects.
  • Design appropriate railing fasteners by using Permacorp guidelines or by working with Permacorp structural engineer or customer EOR.
  • Study the appropriate segments in the building code (sections 3.4 and 9.8) and comment on common code questions with minimal supervision
  • Prepare electronic layouts, charts, detailed scale drawings, and material and equipment requirements from sketches, specifications, and standard layouts provided.
  • Revise computer-aided designs and plans to comply with modified specifications made during actual construction.
  • Facilitate and ensure the quality of design, drawings and graphic work produced within the team.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all work, products, and relevant activities.
  • Review plans and writing technical reports to meet project specifications.
  • Communicate with other departments regarding team’s progress on projects.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
