DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW

Perrigo Nutritionals, located in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, has an opening for an Automation and Controls Engineer. This Engineering position supports all aspects of Perrigo Nutritionals automation and control systems. Work must be conducted in such a manner as to meet all FDA/GMP requirements. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • 5+ years of automation and controls engineering or related experience
  • Extensive knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs and Rockwell Logix software
  • Industrial HMI and/or SCADA development
  • Extensive experience designing, implementing, and/or supporting industrial control systems

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. degree in engineering
  • Food/pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Excellent project engineering and project management experience
  • Aveva System Platform (Wonderware/InTouch HMI, IDE, Historian, OI)
  • Allen Bradley Panelview HMIs
  • Rockwell software (RSLinx, Factory Talk Asset Centre, RSNetworx, Factory Talk View)
  • Highly proficient with automation networks including Ethernet, DeviceNet, and ControlNet
  • Configuration of Rockwell and/or Siemens VFDs
  • GE iFix and iBatch
  • Thin clients; ThinManager software
  • Microsoft SQL server
  • OT Administration (Active Directory, VMWare, network switch configuration – Cisco/Stratix/Siemens, firewall configuration, software installation and patching)
  • Proven ability to develop and incorporate innovative concepts and technologies into functional processes.
  • Ability to use and interpret analytical techniques to verify or select alternate design approaches.
  • Highly proficient with electrical codes and standards.
  • Highly proficient with machine safety standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete project execution consisting of control system design and programming, documentation management, vendor/contractor management, equipment procurement, project schedule and budget adherence, as well as installation, validation, and start-up support.
  • Continuously improve the automated control systems through root cause analysis, identification of opportunities for improvement, and execution of projects using the management of change (MOC) process.
  • Support operations by assisting maintenance, calibration, and automation technicians in advanced troubleshooting. Provide limited after hours (night and weekend) support for urgent issues.
  • Maintain control systems (identify hardware/software/firmware obsolescence; propose and execute upgrades).
  • Maintain control system documentation and generate new documentation as needed.
  • Provide automation and control system knowledge transfer to operators, mechanics, technicians, etc.
  • Work in a changing environment where teamwork, collaboration, and effective communication skills are required.
  • Work with minimal supervision, multi-tasking and prioritizing under pressure.
