POSITION SUMMARY

CIMCO is looking for regular full time Automation Engineer to join our Engineering Services Team in Edmonton This role will appeal to you if you have a passion for all aspects of automation control from planning, coordination, implementation, through to commissioning. Expertise required in all of the following project phases; requirements documentation, detailed design generation, system programming, HMI design, system integration, on-site commissioning, customer training, after installation support.
Depending on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated abilities, a candidate would be considered for other future opportunities either in a leadership position within the Automation group or opportunities in our Panel Engineering, Project Engineering, or Sales Departments.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience with programming and commissioning automation systems.
  • The successful candidate will be hands-on, electrically and mechanically inclined.
  • Experience with commercial DDC and/or industrial PLC software and hardware.
  • Ability to work with customers, consultants, internal staff, and external vendors to coordinate projects.
  • Ability to troubleshoot automation control systems from the field element up through operator interfaces and databases.
  • Experience with control system networking technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical and electronic instrumentations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced multi-tasking environment.
  • Ability to work alone or in a team and accept responsibility for the work performed.
  • Ability to prioritize work and deal with conflicts in order to meet deadlines.

Additional Desired Skills & Qualifications :

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or qualifications leading to registration.
  • Knowledge of control strategies for refrigeration equipment.
  • Experience with other software programming.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Experience in the design of electrical power & control circuits and panel layouts conforming to CSA & UL electrical standards.
  • Knowledge of AC motor controls using conventional and modern techniques.
  • Knowledge of fabricating and testing of Electrical Control panels.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, configuration, integration and implementation of automation solutions for variety of systems in Recreation and Industrial facilities.
  • Determine Automation Control requirements and provide costing to Sales Department
  • Liaison with other departments to ensure automation design matches the mechanical and electrical design.
  • Manage multiple Automation Control projects simultaneously from beginning to end.
  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of control system schematics.
  • Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of bills of material and issue material requisitions to purchasing department.
  • Create, test, and document DDC/PLC code and HMI interfaces based on company standards and specifications.
  • On-site commissioning, tuning, and site training of control systems.
  • Integrate control systems with other automation systems and devices using various communications protocols.
  • Monitor progress of projects to maintain costs within budget, update project costing when required.
  • Provide customer training and after installation support.
  • Occasional travel to commission and troubleshoot out of town control systems.
  • Document engineering designs, prepare record files.
  • Contribute to the continuous design improvement process.
