The Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Automation, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years Hands-on experience in the maintenance and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment, preferably in oral solid dose production or high-speed packaging, is desirable.
  • Familiarity with the pharmaceutical or food industries is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with programming and automation systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of automation systems, including PLCs, vision systems, and motion control.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to diagnosing and resolving technical issues.
  • Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing)

Responsibilities:

As an Automation Engineer, you will be a key member of the Automation and Information Systems (IS) team, responsible for providing both day-to-day support and project-driven initiatives within our automated production and packaging facility. Your primary focus will be on troubleshooting, maintaining, and continuously improving the production processes, equipment, and site utilities. You will play a crucial role in understanding and optimizing automation systems, with a particular emphasis on Allen Bradley PLC systems.What you’ll do:

  • Lead efforts in diagnosing and resolving issues related to automation systems, including PLCs, motion systems, vision systems, and network communications.
  • Oversee the maintenance of production and packaging equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Act as the primary contact for all automation-related issues, including line down situations, providing timely and effective solutions.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of all control systems in use on site, including Siemens and Allen Bradley PLCs, high-speed vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence), electrical and safety systems, and associated networks.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of disaster recovery support programs and system obsolescence strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to monitor equipment performance and apply proven troubleshooting techniques to address root causes of issues.
  • Support and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the site, enhancing overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and process efficiency.
  • Ensure that all new equipment and tasks undergo comprehensive risk assessments.
  • Support investigations into incidents and near misses, proactively addressing safety risks and driving corrective actions.
  • Participate in site validation activities, including automation change control and the drafting of IOPQ documents and test scripts.
  • Manage software revisions for control systems to ensure full compliance with business quality systems and regulatory requirements.
