Description:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Healthcare, Business, Economics or related field.
  • Certification in healthcare management or related areas (preferred).
  • 10 or more years of progressive management experience in healthcare, preferably with in-depth knowledge specific to clinical program areas across the continuum; clinical background preferred.
  • 10 or more years of experience in healthcare leadership, with a proven track record of success in managing clinical operations.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, quality improvement methodologies, and clinical best practices.
  • Significant experience leading teams, group facilitation, project management, and building management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience and success developing and implementing clinical program growth strategies, physician and payer alignment, and consumer engagement models in a highly competitive and complex market environment.
  • Experience building clinical programs across the continuum of care, including ambulatory, acute and post-acute care, medical group, home and community-based sites.
  • Demonstrated experience creating a culture of excellence, including quality and service improvement.
  • Experience in working collegially and productively in partnership with and supporting other experienced clinical program leaders.
  • Experience working in a large, integrated healthcare system (preferred).
  • A leader as well as team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills; track record of developing collaborative and effective working relationships with physicians, clinicians, management, colleagues and peers; ability to motivate, lead and influence others to implement key strategies.
  • Strong skills in supporting and working collegially, collaboratively, and productively with other clinical program leaders.
  • Knowledge and understanding of emerging health care, market and technology trends, including forces influencing the growth, utilization and delivery of clinical services.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Providence Health & Services principles and processes for the administrative, financial, and human resource management of Clinical Institute functioning for strategic planning, business plan development, personnel management, and delivery of clinical services.
  • Leadership skills including ability to prioritize and organize work; flexibility and agility to process information and adapt quickly to a changing healthcare environment; create goals and accountability; lead projects from concept to implementation in a timely manner; and achieve results.
  • Strong customer focus with physicians, management, colleagues, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Financial management skills including healthcare budgeting and financing, pricing, revenue optimization, reimbursement and payment models, and cost management.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools including benchmarking best practices, data tracking and monitoring outcomes.
  • Skills in change management, Six Sigma, Lean and/or other continuous performance improvement techniques.
  • Understand and be comfortable in a complex matrix structured organization.
  • Strong professional ethics including a commitment to advance Providence’s Mission, Vision and Core Values.
  • Strong self-motivational skills and be able to function independently without direct supervision while involving and requesting assistance from the CSO, Divisional Leadership, hospital Administration, and others, when appropriate.

Responsibilities:

THIS ROLE IS REMOTE WITHIN PROVIDENCE FOOTPRINT WITH A PREFERENCE FOR OR, WA, OR CA.

The Clinical Institutes within the South Division of Providence Health are specialized centers of excellence dedicated to promoting excellence in care across various medical specialties. Each institute is responsible for driving clinical innovation, improving patient outcomes, and facilitating the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care within their specific area of expertise.
The AVP, Clinical Institute is a dyad partner with the South DCMO responsible for overseeing the overall performance of clinical institutes within the division. The AVP will collaborate with executive leadership, executive directors, service area CEs and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care and the achievement of organizational goals. Works closely with strategy and operational teams to develop strategic plans and define an approach for implementation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Strategic Leadership:

  • Collaborate with division strategy team to develop strategic plans for the clinical services provided in alignment with the overall vision and mission of Providence Health.
  • Explore and implement strategies for revenue growth, including expanding services and improving patient access.
  • Ensure the integration of clinical services across the division to provide seamless care delivery and mature the IDN.
  • Assists in creating centers of excellence to optimize the volume/outcome relationship and consolidate complex services where possible.

Daily Management:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the clinical institutes, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with REH team to discern new products and procedures.
  • Facilitate the sharing of knowledge and best practices across the division and with external partners.

Financial Stewardship:

  • Develop and manage the budget for each Clinical Institute, ensuring financial sustainability and accountability.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency while maintaining or enhancing the quality of care. Provide best practices for resource allocation, including staff, technology, and facilities, to optimize clinical operations.
  • Promote financial performance through growing clinical care programs, improving clinical effectiveness, reducing unnecessary variation and avoiding duplication of services.
  • Promote value-based care models.

Quality and Performance Improvement:

  • Drive clinical innovation by adopting the latest evidence-based practices, technologies, and treatment protocols. Disseminate clinical pathways and protocols for local leadership to implement across the division.
  • Facilitate initiatives that enhance clinical quality, patient outcomes, and operational efficiency. Promote benchmarking data and share opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of clinical services, highlighting areas for improvement as needed. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of clinical programs. Partner with ACOE to optimize and refine actionable data and tools that are relevant to ministry leadership teams.
  • Foster a culture of excellence and innovation in clinical practice and care delivery. Seek and facilitate specialty accreditations to further clinical excellence and patient experience.
  • Promote the tenets of an HRO.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and development opportunities for institute directors and other team members.
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment that values diversity and teamwork.
  • Assist with effective communication and collaboration across interdisciplinary teams within the ministries and PCN.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including physicians, patients, and community partners.
  • Represent the clinical institutes at service area, divisional and system meetings as well as external forums
  • Advocate for the needs of patients and communities, influencing public health policy and resource allocation.
  • Act as thought partners to ministry, service area and divisional leaders to bring subject matter expertise to the fore to ensure continuous improvement.

Regulatory and Compliance:

  • Ensure that all clinical activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards. Provide updates to ministry and service area leadership and assist with preparing for regular reviews and audits.
  • Stay informed about changes in healthcare policy and legislation that may impact the clinical programs within the division.
  • Help craft and update policies and procedures to maintain high standards of care and operational integrity and exceed regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Define approach and eligibility for new and innovative care delivery models (bundled payment models, TEAM, episodes of care, NCDs).
  • Collaborates with system Research team to assist with compliance and tracking of clinical research within the division.
