Description:
Two research positions for two Research Grants (“Bolsas de Investigação“) are open at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project DARING – Deep compression: emerging pAradigm foR Image codiNG. This project is funded by FCT/MCTES through national funds and when applicable co-funded EU funds under the PTDC/EEI-COM/7775/2020 project reference.
These scholarships are for candidates that aim to work on innovative topics related to coding, processing, and assessment of visual data. This research aims to enhance the understanding of how visual data can be effectively analyzed, compressed, and evaluated, particularly in contexts where accuracy and quality are critical. Potential applications include multimedia, medical imaging, autonomous systems, and more. The work to be conducted with this research grant is in the context of the DARING project financed by Fundação para a Ciencia e Tecnologia (FCT), which has the objective of advancing existing solutions in the learning-based image coding field.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Research grants are intended:
- for students enrolled in a degree-conferring course to carry out R&D activities with the aim to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the attainment of the respective academic degree or completion of the course (integrated or not in R&D projects).
- for students enrolled in courses that do not confer an academic degree but which are integrated in an educational project of a higher education institution and are developed in association or cooperation with one or several R&D units.
In what concerns the admission requirements for these research grants in particular:
- Enrolled in a Ph.D. course of electrical and computer engineering;
- background on quality assessment and visual compression;
- knowledge of Python/C++ programming; and
- fluent in English with good skills in technical writing and presenting.
