Description:

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros.
The »High-Performance Cutting« department develops technologies and application-oriented solutions for cutting along the entire process chain - from process design and process simulation to real-time data acquisition during production, consulting, and prototype manufacturing. Optimizers like Bayesian Optimization can further automize the process of CAM planning, thus reducing the amount of expert knowledge required.
We are looking for a dedicated and motivated student to assist us in implementing a novel optimization strategy within our simulation environment, called dPart®, and determining its limitations.

Responsibilities:

  • Explore new key performance indicators (KPIs), such as the difference between the optimal component geometry and the geometry predicted by our milling simulation
  • Investigate various optimization strategies and their effectiveness in automizing CAM planning
  • Incorporate the analyzed strategies and KPIs within dPart®
  • Preparation and documentation of results
