Backfill Engineer - Dugald River

QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or related discipline.
• Underground sublevel open stoping or other similar experience
• Deep knowledge of backfill instrumentation, monitoring and QA/QC
• Proficient user of Deswik CAD and PumpSim
• Practical understanding of operational mining process
• Understanding of data management systems (PitRam)
• Practical knowledge of backfilling techniques – Paste fill, CRF and Rockfill

• Manage Backfill Operation and Placement onsite including pipe routes, pipe pressures and design strength requirements.
• Conduct reviews of stope performance and future exposures to assess stability issues and fill type requirements.
• Undertaking analysis to determine strength requirements of cemented backfill for future exposures and development
• Developing and maintaining paste reticulation system.
• Sound understanding into the design, implementation and monitoring of bulkheads
• Ensure adequate testing programmes are in place to monitor quality of backfill and bulkhead construction
• Analysis of backfill QA/QC results to determine fill quality in stopes and identify issues
• Input into mine planning to ensure sequence’s and backfill types are appropriate
• Regular input into operational decision making
• Design and manage the installation of pipe extensions
• Conducting Risk Assessments where required to manage backfill operations and major pipe extensions
• Develop working knowledge of the paste plant and process
• The use of suitable Modelling techniques for pipe pressure systems design and backfill exposures
• Developing and maintaining key documentation related to backfill operations onsite
• Developing, presenting and updating suitable training for operators and technical staff
• Input into mine budgets short and long term for paste mix design and infrastructure requirements
• Develop and maintain relationships with paste operators, process supervisors, process metallurgists, underground paste crew, underground paste supervision, laboratory personnel, mining engineers, geotechnical engineers and site leadership
