Description:

The Acute Medical Unit is a diagnostic and emergency treatment unit within acute medicine with a varied workload . The team is both friendly and supportive, with a strong commitment to providing a high standard of care, and we are looking for highly motivated, dynamic and passionate individuals
We pride ourselves on having an integrated friendly and welcoming team made up of Allied health professionals including Doctors, Nurses and Therapists. We work closely with all the departments and areas within the hospital including with our colleagues from Accident and Emergency, our ambulatory care team and all the ward staff. We currently assess/triage and admit patients with acute medical conditions from a variety of sources – including GPs, the Emergency Department and Outpatients Clinics.
We are looking for experienced Clinical Support Workers, hospital experience is desirable but not essential. A minimum of GCSE English and Maths grade C or 4 or Functional skills for English/Maths, Care Certificate and or NVQ2 two in health and social care or the equivalent role. Your role will be to provide delegated clinical procedures such as insertion/removal of cannula, venepuncture, wound assessment and simple dressings, removal of urinary catheter, training will be provided

The Clinical Support Worker (Band 3) is a member of the care team who provides:

  • Personal care or chaperone duties
  • Supporting patients with bathing, toileting, dressing and meals
  • Records patient information
  • A range of delegated clinical care duties
  • Undertakes and records patients’ vital signs
  • Escalate any concerns in observation or change in patient’s condition
  • Support and supervision of Band 2 clinical support workers
  • Enhanced observations
  • Patient escort role
  • removal of urinary catheter
  • Administration of oral or topical medication (after additional training with competency checks)
  • Escort duties to patients who may be acutely unwell including administration of oxygen (after additional training)
  • Safeguard the well-being and health of patients by reporting concerns

Promote and maintain a clean and tidy care environment. This includes:

  • Making beds
  • Cleaning of bedside furniture and equipment as required
  • Disposal of general and clinical waste

Assist in the orientation of patients to the care environment and available facilities (if hospital/clinical settings).
Documentation of care actions and findings.
Promote good communication and adhere to Trust values.
Ensure the safe custody of patient’s belongings according to Trust policy.

Successful applicants will be required to complete an Induction course, which will include all the Trust statutory/Mandatory training to join our team inviting them to share their knowledge and experience with the ward; you will need to be well motivated and committed to high standards of patient care and personal professional development.
You must be able to work as part of a team, use your own initiative with effective interpersonal and communication skills, contributing fully as a member of the multi-disciplinary team. We will provide a supportive atmosphere, mentorship and clinical supervision on the unit and are committed to the professional development of all staff. Team working is an integral part of this unit with all staff enabled and empowered to make a real difference for their patient.
