Transport for London (TfL) Engineers are always looking forward. Join us in the Vehicles Engineering team as a Band 3 Engineering and, as well as ensuring legacy assets are maintained to safe and reliable standards and delivering new systems and solutions, you’ll be responsible for getting the best out of a team of enthusiastic engineers. There’s more to it than trains, trams and buses: this is about connecting communities and creating opportunities, so our people and our assets are ready for the rest of the 21st century and beyond.
Working in the Vehicles Engineering Technical Services team you will apply extensive expertise in the field of engineering which is deployed in the review and resolution of high complex or network-wide technical problems - providing functional and technical leadership, advice and expertise to staff, internal and external stakeholders, interpreting technical strategy and company policy to satisfy business requirements.
Day to day your focus in the Technical Services team will be on supporting engineering activities that include delivering equipment maintenance, enhancements, engineering solutions, root cause analyses, information, and testing that keep vital, innovative and big-budget projects moving. You’ll make sure our vehicle assets are safe, working and compliant, developing your own solutions with guidance from your experienced peers; and you’ll become a trusted source of engineering advice for everyone that comes to you, including our Heads of Engineering Delivery.
You will need the ability to manage site-based maintenance activities in depots. This will require occasional unsocial hours and weekends working to gain access to vehicles. You will need to understand how the maintenance and repair of vehicle based remote monitoring equipment operates within a system of systems including mechanical installation as well as electrical and system fault finding. You will have the ability to understand complex issues and be able to communicate this to a wide range of stakeholders within the overall TfL structure. You will be expected to continue to develop your expertise within the team and share your knowledge with other engineers to aid their development and support the team.
