The Deputy Theatre Manger/Advanced Theatre Practitioner is a new and exciting role at Birmingham Dental Hospital. We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and patient focussed individual to join the team. The primary focus of the post is to ensure that the Trust provides high quality patient centred care reflecting the beliefs outlined in the theatre philosophy. The practitioner will act as an advocate for patients ensuring they receive the best possible care whilst they are working in anaesthetics and recovery. The post holder will be expected to work across the full theatre pathway including clerking, scrub nursing, anaesthetics and recovery. The post holder will be expected to lead a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Dental nurses, Registered Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners treating a variety of patients from children to adults. The post holder will deputise in the absence of the Theatre Manager and will assist in organising the replenishment and maintenance of stock and equipment within the department.
The practitioner will be responsible for their own professional conduct in line with NMC / AODP Code of Conduct. They will adhere to and understand all Trust & local policies and procedures.
Assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the peri-operative care of patients using specialist knowledge and skills ensuring all care is person centred and individualised acknowledging personal preferences, legal rights and choice of patients undergoing surgery.
Maintain health, safety and the control of infection in clinical work areas in line with Trust policies and procedures.
Store, prepare and administer prescribed drugs to patients, and monitor the effects of drugs on patients in line with Trust policies.
Support, monitor and care for patients during clinical procedures.
The post holder will deputise for the theatre manager (working within own scope of capability and competence of the unit), providing clinical and operational management advice, including skill mix and safe staffing decisions, and escalates areas of concern.
Exemplary standards of behaviour will be role modelled and the standards/behaviours/values of the Nursing/Dental/AHP profession in line with NMC/GDC/HCPC code of conduct and trust will be upheld.
Support the theatre manager with the day-to-day management of the theatre setting reflecting HR policies and procedures, including staff performance and sickness & absence. Staff will be coached, supported appropriately, and signposted to other agencies and areas of concern to be escalated.
Manage the theatre team to ensure effective & efficient use of funded theatre time by monitoring productivity and theatre utilisation.
