The Pharmacy team at Barnet Hospital have an exciting opportunity for a motivated senior pharmacy technician committed to delivering high quality patient care to join medicine pharmacy team within the AAU.
The post holder will be enthusiastic, self-motivated & adaptable, with good communication and interpersonal skills to take on this challenging post. Your role will involve working with Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and other health care professionals on providing Medicines Management services at ward level.
The post holder will support the prescribing pharmacists to carry out medicines reconciliation for our newly admitted patients and the assessment of patients own drugs. You will support in the day to day coordination of the dispensary and of the satellite pharmacy by providing original pack dispensing, patient counselling and co-ordination of the supply of discharge medicines to our patients.
You will be an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician and be or working towards the the Practice Supervisor or Educational Supervisor course. You must have evidence of registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have good post qualification experience working as a Pharmacy Technician.
Candidates should have considerable experience working with patients on the ward, excellent organisational, communication and managerial skills, and should be able to develop and maintain highly professional relationships with medical and nursing staff.
The medicine pharmacy team is based in the medicine satellite pharmacy and the post holder will assist in the provision of a timely medicines reconciliation and rapid patient discharge service.
You will be involved in planning for discharge, accurately dispensing / checking prescriptions in the satellite pharmacy and providing an individualised counselling service for patients leaving the medicine wards. Other duties include: deputising for the Lead Pharmacy Technician - Clinical Services in maintaining the satellite pharmacy, stock control, and educating & training of pharmacy staff and nurses. In addition, you will also assist with the compilation of monthly drug expenditure reports for the Medicine Directorate.
The post holder will also support and coordinate training and staff development by acting as a mentor / trainer / practice supervisor for apprenticeships, in-house and external training/ accreditations to a range of staff, including (but not limited to) Pharmacy technicians, Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (PTPTs) and Trainee Pharmacists (TPs).
