Description:
Clinical Manages and leads the outpatient department and nursing team ensuring that patients receive clinically appropriate interventions when required. Ensure that nursing care is assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated using evidence based practice.. To co-ordinate and utilise skills to ensure the process of referral, assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of care is efficiently and effectively carried out, meeting all the standards laid down by the NMC, D.O.H. and Trust guidelines, taking appropriate action in emergency situations.
Manage the nursing department on a daily basis, co-ordinate the clinical team, and delegate duties as appropriate, maintain safe staffing levels and informing the Service Clinical Manager of any problems or incidents that might arise. Ensure that accurate and timely nursing records are maintained, monitoring standards, and taking appropriate corrective action as necessary. Responsible for ordering, storing, checking and administering drugs, in a variety of clinically appropriate mediums in accordance with Trust policy. Complete end of year pharmacy stock take for the attention of the Corporate Finance Team.
Lead nurse for medicines management at West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre. Maintaining and monitoring a safe clean environment within the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre, Act as autonomous clinical practitioner, providing expert clinical advice to patients within the outpatient department. To be responsible for own professional actions. Infection, Prevention and Control Link Nurse for the centre.
Communicates highly sensitive condition related information to patients on a regular basis. Maintaining and monitoring levels of stock and ensuring that there are adequate stores and that resources are used effectively. Complete end of year stock take for Medical and Surgical supplies for the attention of the Corporate Finance Team. Undertake regular monthly clinical audits, display data and implement changes to improve any shortfalls identified.
Lead in initiating, implementing and evaluating new ideas and changes in clinical practice. Once concluded, writing and disseminating Standard Operating Procedures. Facilitate the Essential Care Framework, celebrating success and taking any improvements through to a Quality Improvement Project. Promote health education and provide appropriate information and advice to patients and their carers.
Act in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct for nurses and to be accountable for own clinical practice and professional actions at all times. Promote reflective practice for all staff. Will accommodate the integration of the clinical supervision process to all nursing staff. Ensure COSSH information is up to date and accessible for all staff.
Responsible for the organisation of training for staff to act as Fire Wardens/Marshalls and first aid personnel to comply with HSE legislation. Ensure robust monitoring and replenishment of Resuscitation equipment and location. Monitor outpatient environment ensuring matters raised with Estates and act accordingly. Manage risks and incidents, identifying learning and overseeing appropriate actions.
Undertaking a link role in Tissue Viability, ensuring any wounds are assessed and dressed appropriately. Act appropriately and timely with safeguarding concerns. Management and Leadership Responsibilities Line manages outpatient department/function allocates duties to nursing and support staff, manages the staff roster, recruitment and retention of staff, ensuring all staff receive appraisals. This includes all associated line management tasks including sickness management.
Develop and empower all members of your team to perform to high standards and innovate. Ensure supportive staff management arrangements are in place and carry out personal development reviews for direct reports. Ensure all staff in your team/teams have annual PDRs resulting in specific objectives and effective personal development plans. Develop staff knowledge and skills to promote equality and diversity and address inequalities both in employment and service delivery.
Ensure specific equality objectives are included in PDRs. Develop a culture that ensures that the Trust value of Great Place to Work is achieved and maintained for all staff and that staffs perception about their working lives are measured and improvements made. Provide leadership, motivating the department team to ensure excellent nursing care, providing support and supervision to junior staff and student nurses. To be accountable for own professional practice.
Work in close co-operation with the consultants and the multi-disciplinary team. Undertake the completion of the department nurse staffing rota, and the support services assistants rota to ensure both services are run efficiently. Responsible for managing delegated budget, taking into account the standing financial instructions. To act as authorised signature for staff timesheets and petty cash as required, in accordance with Trust Policy and Procedure.
Leads in the recruitment, selection and retention of staff within own sphere of responsibility. To lead and participate in meetings, case conferences and clinics, where appropriate. Ensure that all staff attend mandatory training and essential to role training and that attendance is recorded on Electronic Staff Records. Participate in the orientation of new staff and the development of Junior Staff.
Facilitate new Nurse learners (Students, Apprentices and Trainees) into the centre providing them with a positive learning environment
