Description:

Band 7 Pathology IT and Applications Officer (2 x 1 WTE)

The new system Oracle Health Millennium will be implemented as a domain extension from Barts Health to BHRUT. The Trust will continue to support its existing application eco-system until the new EPR is delivered in Spring 2025.
The Pathology IM&T Application Support Officer will undertake technical support and system administration as well as development tasks of any complexity as directed by the Pathology IT Manager and EPR and Standard LIMS Implementation Project Manager. This role is critical in supporting the integrating the new EPR with existing LIMS, and also moving on to standard LIMS with ESEL LIMS partnership post EPR go-live.
The postholder must be knowledgeable and proficient in the use of more than one Pathology IT System. As a senior member of staff, they would participate in the planning, monitoring and quality assurance activities in Pathology IT, as well as support, documentation and other duties. They will also be involved in liaison with all departments in Pathology and customers outside Pathology.
We would welcome informal enquiries in advance, and ask all internal BHRUT staff to discuss any secondment opportunities with their existing line manager before applying.
To assist the team to manage projects or perform projects actions assigned to the Pathology IM&T team, under guidance of the Pathology IM&T managers.
To have a good understanding of the main LIMS in use across BHRUT for all disciplines and how it interacts with its many integrated systems.
To acquire a wide knowledge and detailed understanding of relevant aspects of the software environments used in Pathology.
To assist in the monitoring of the integration between WinPath and other systems including CyberLab, Electronic Referrals, GP Links, and Inform.
To liaise with other departments in Pathology, Trust ICT, Informatics and external providers.
To be able to use PCs for word processing, spreadsheet management including the use of calculations and formulae, office automation and project management.
To be able to carry out analysis of technical issues under the direction of the Pathology IT Manager making recommendations on the best option for selection given a broad range of options.
To acquire a very good understanding of server and PC hardware configuration in use for Pathology systems.
To suggest enhancements to Pathology IM&T internal technical policies and contribute to working groups set up to develop Pathology IM&T core policies.

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better. We were the most improved Trust in England for A&E performance in 2023/24; we’re no longer in special measures; and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal. Our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and that our patients are happy with.
Many of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. More than 400 of them are on apprenticeship programmes and we’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
We operate from two main sites - King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023.
Patients across north east London are benefitting from two new state of the art theatres at KGH and our Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub will significantly increase the number of scans that can be carried out.
We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It’ll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.
