Description:
This post is a full-time 12 month Fixed term position for a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Virology, Band 8c based at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust Virology department provides clinical services for the Royal Free Hospital, Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital and local General Practice services and satellite haemodialysis units. This is a newly created post that will form an integral part of the Trust’s Virology team, currently situated on both the Royal Free Hospital and Barnet Hospital sites. The appointee will join three fellow Consultant Virologists on the Royal Free site, and 5 Consultant Microbiologists / Infectious Diseases Consultants based on the Barnet and Chase Farm sites. This is an exciting opportunity to build on the excellent service currently provided on both sites but with an emphasis on developing cross-site specialist Virology provision. The post will be predominantly based at the Royal Free Hospital site but will provide a cross-site clinical presence for Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals. Liaison and attendance at the main laboratory building in King’s Cross, Central London will also form part of the appointee’s remit.
As a Consultant Clinical Scientist we would expect an active participation, as part of a rota, in the delivery of the Virology Clinical service (e.g. Virology authorisation, fielding of clinical enquiries, advising on clinical management including infection prevention and control, participation in multi-disciplinary meetings). The role will also involve cross-site management responsibilities and laboratory liaison, and training/teaching of medical and clinical scientist trainees on diagnostics. Participation in the Royal Free Hospital Virology out of hours on-call rota at a 1 in 4 frequency will be expected.
Our trust has around 10,000 staff serving 1.6 million patients. It comprises Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital, the Royal Free Hospital and more than 30 services in the community. This larger scale organisation provides an unprecedented opportunity for us to continue our pioneering work, particularly in finding ways to deliver even better care to our patients.
Our mission is to deliver world class care and expertise in our clinical services, underpinned by world class teaching and research and we will continue to measure our progress against our five governing objectives: excellent outcomes, excellent patient and staff experience, excellent value for taxpayers’ money, being safe and meeting our external duties, and building a strong organisation.
Everyone is welcome at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. We’re proud of our diversity and we continue to undertake new initiatives to advance equality for LGBT+, BME, gender equality, staff carers and people with disabilities and lived experiences to promote good relations and understanding between our staff.
