Description:
POSITION AVAILABLE: BAR MANAGER @ ORCHARD RESTAURANT
By creating an atmosphere of casual elegance, Orchard Restaurant strikes the optimal balance between luxury and accessibility. Located at the base of Calgary’s premier luxury residential project, SODO, Orchard sits just outside the downtown core. The well-appointed dining room is reminiscent of European supper clubs, with ample seating, a custom-fabricated bar and a series of chandeliers which envelop the space in a warm, inviting glow. Orchard is open seven days a week, and is a destination restaurant for both downtown and the surrounding area.
Management plays a critical role in leading AND supporting the team. We are seeking a Bar Manager who has an eye for the big picture, while being aware of the details. A great manager is someone who wants to see more for their team, their space, and themselves. - Planning, organizing and adapting the schedule for staff and optimal working conditions.
- Hiring, training, and reviewing staff members based on experience, performance, and improvement.
- Organizing and delegating tasks for the opening, closing, and weekly duties to staff.
- Teaching staff about general protocols, methods, and positive habits.
- Managing and organizing reservations using booking software.
- Completing or delegating weekly inventory and par sheets, and using this information to submit shopping lists on Slack, and liquor orders to liquor suppliers.
- Setting up regular staff training and meetings for restaurant improvement and optimization.
- Meeting with sales reps to discuss and review current inventory, negotiate deals, and arrange tastings for possible menu additions.
- Directing and managing the creation of new drink menus on a seasonal basis.
- Communicating with management to restock supplies and manage decor.
- Actively looking for ways to improve and optimize operations.
- Managing, text messages, emails and inquiries about visiting.
- Complete the cash out and day end on the POS system at.
- Electing specific staff members to take responsibility for tasks, and restaurant goals.
- Performing necessary administrative responsibilities to keep the business running smoothly.
- Actively communicating with staff, and enabling staff to grow and succeed in a bar environment.
- Running all general day to day operations.
- Other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Qualifications:
- Basic Notes: Be able to balance responsibilities with leadership, new skills, and personal growth.
- 5 years in the restaurant industry with at least 2 years experience in management
- Strong experience with serving and understanding wine, cocktails, and palate.
- Understanding of inventory management and systems
- Understanding of menu organization and recommendations
- Leadership experience with ability to work within a variety of conditions
- Experience providing and receiving direct and honest feedback
- Organized, driven and determined to achieve and be better
- Experience with TouchBistro would be an asset
- Be available to work a flexible schedule including late nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Pro-Serve Certified.
