Responsibilities:
The purpose of the Dietitian post is to provide an evidence based clinical nutrition service to patients who are referred due to nutritional risk, or/and a therapeutic diet requirement and/or the inability to eat adequately due to illness. This incorporates working as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team and delivering on Key Performance Indicators as required for the role. The Dietitian will be responsible for the service delivery within their area of assignment. The post is mainly based in the hospital, working with inpatients, and may include a small OPD remit. The post holder will work with other Dietitians in the Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, to provide the clinical nutrition service across the hospital, including cover of colleagues on leave. The Dietitian will have many learning opportunities through thier clinical assignment, self reflection, supervision and shared care to develop their competence.
The Dietitian will be given the opportunity to rotate periodically across a range of specialties where patient nutritional needs vary from chronic disease therapeutic diets, to acute and longterm nutritional support including oral, enteral and parenteral nutrition. There will be the opportunity to work with the senior and clinical specialist dietitians in the delivery of evidence based nutritional care, including care to those attending the Mater due to our national specialties- heart and lung transplantation, spinal injuries, inherited metabolic disorders and Hipec cancer surgery. The Mater is also the new Major trauma centre and is expanding to develop this specialism.
