Description:

Main Purpose:
To be the lead global research and analysis on bauxite and alumina, including building and updating supply and demand models, providing value-add market insights to the trading team, and analyzing high-frequency indicators of market dynamics.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:

  • Detailed knowledge of bauxite and alumina markets, both inside and outside of China.
  • Prior experience in commodity research, specifically in metals or bulks. Direct knowledge of bauxite or alumina markets is preferred.
  • Analytical mindset and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis on providing proactive insights that have tradeable value.
  • Experience using trade data, data visualization tools and statistical data modeling software.
  • Highly competent in communicating complex concepts and good presentation skills.
  • Strong technical skills. Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint are a requirement.
  • High preference for candidates with programming experience and a solid understanding of database concepts (Python and SQL preferred; R, MATLAB or VBA beneficial).
  • Ability to work independently and proactively to deliver timely results.
  • Fluency in English. The role is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • Fluency in another foreign language a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collating, analysing and interpreting data to produce commodity market insights.
  • Building and maintaining supply and demand models – both regional and global – across aluminium, alumina and bauxite markets.
  • Cost of production modelling and analysis for upstream assets.
  • Supply analysis and forward market balance assessments.
  • Trade flow analysis and other ad-hoc analysis that provides traders with what they need to know in order to get the best trading results.

Department Overview
This position will sit within the Metals & Mining Research team, this is a global team with product specialists supporting the various trading desks in Geneva and globally and providing analysis based on fundamental and technical data. This position will be focused on the alumina and bauxite markets.
