Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
The successful incumbent will report to the principal of siʔáḿθɘt School (kindergarten to Grade 12) and works with the team to ensure inclusive educational programming and care planning. The primary focus for the successful incumbent will be providing one-to-one behavioural intervention support to children with extra support needs, as well as support individual care planning and broader capacity-building for the school. As time permits, a secondary focus will be working alongside a team to provide quality, inclusive education and will work with family support services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Formal education in psychology, special education, behaviour analysis, Autism, Aboriginal Supported Child Development, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with children in a school environment, and love working and enjoy playing with children.
- Experience working with neurodiverse children who have special needs, complex behaviors, trauma, autism, alcohol related neurological disorders and attachment challenges.
- Valid First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
- Previous experience working in a First Nations community and/or organization an asset.
- Successful completion of criminal record check for vulnerable populations

Responsibilities:
- Support children one-to-one who has been diagnosed or have suspected developmental delays or disabilities to participate in programming.
- Assist in creating behavioral intervention plan and implement strategies.
- Participate in care planning for children with extra support needs, alongside the children’s family, teachers, and multidisciplinary care team.
- Create resources and materials to support healthy child development.
- Participate, collaborate, and contribute to team meetings.
- Adhere to siʔáḿθɘt School and Tsleil-Waututh Nation visions for education.
- Prepare activity documentation to support child’s learning.
- Work with administration and staff to individualize the curriculum and family services.
- Ensure guidance of children that encourages positive self-esteem.
- Ensure positive communications with parents/guardians.
- Contribute to the ongoing operation of the Centre.
- Facilitate a respectful conflict resolution process when dealing with staff and parent/guardian issues.
- Implement a problem-solving approach with practical solutions when faced with difficult situations.
- Maintain a neat, orderly, and clean environment in all activity and program areas.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the school, staff, children, and their families.
- Encourage potty training and/or change diapers when needed.
- Supervising while children are eating.
- Ensure that children are always safe and recognize children who are potentially at risk and take appropriate action.
- Perform other related duties as required.
