Responsibilities:
JOB PURPOSE
The postholder will:
- Have a key role in setting up and be responsible for the subsequent day-to-day running of the newly established Behavioural Science Laboratory that will be part of the Adam Smith Business School.
- Provide comprehensive technical leadership to laboratory users, including academics, researchers, postgraduate and undergraduate students.
- Provide technical support and expertise in Behavioural Science and take part in the planning, design, delivery, and safe operation of this specialist technical research facility.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be responsible for day-to-day operational aspects of a specialist research facility.
- Provide technical leadership and operational support to researchers in the planning and conduction of experiments, and advise and train service users in technical aspects of the research.
- Manage and implement laboratory operations including recruitment and management of the subject pool; installation, maintenance, and updating of specialised laboratory software; implementation of Standard Operating Procedures for service users, which ensures compliance with relevant legislative requirements, University policy, and best practice.
- Monitor and keep detailed record on usage of the Behavioural Laboratory and report on a regular basis to the Director of Behavioural Laboratory to ensure its operations meet agreed aims and objectives.
- Give input from the technical and day-to-day operational perspective and, where appropriate, work with the Director of Behavioural Laboratory in order to devise strategies and related aspects for the Behavioural Laboratory including subject-pool recruitment strategies, design and review of Standard Operating Procedures for service users, and development of the Laboratory in line with the demands of the users.
- Keep up to date with developments in relevant research/technical areas and within the broader discipline to ensure contribution to research goals is optimised.
- Troubleshoot complex technical problems, including issues with the design and operation of technical resources and/or with the data which is generated.
- Be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of and compliance with relevant Health and Safety, Data Protection and/or other specialist legal requirements, including the maintenance of all necessary records in accordance with set requirements.
- Work collaboratively with others, including within the wider School and where relevant with external contacts, to enhance the delivery of the research aims and support the broader strategic aims of the University.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Director of the Behavioural Laboratory.
