Description:
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
How’s this for job satisfaction? At Scottish Water we look after Scotland’s most precious natural resource. From source to tap, we’re guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water, and caring for our environment at the same time. Our Portfolio Management function is the backbone of Scottish Water’s strategic investments, bridging the gap between Environment, Planning & Assurance (EPA), Finance, Strategy & Regulation, and Capital Investment Delivery.
It’s an exciting time for Portfolio Management as we evolve from a delivery-focused support role into a more strategic function. The new Portfolio Benefits Management Team Leader will have a real opportunity to shape and drive this transformation.
Our team plays a crucial part in helping Scottish Water achieve its long-term goals by ensuring a balanced approach to investment across the portfolio. This means planning and prioritising projects to make the most of our supply chain’s skills and resources, while effectively delivering programmes over a rolling 6-year period.
What you’ll do
You’ll ensure a consistent, fit-for-purpose approach to benefits management across our investment portfolio, playing a crucial role in optimising benefits realisation and effectively communicating achieved and forecast benefits to stakeholders.
Reporting to the Portfolio – Investment Manager, you’ll lead a small team of Portfolio Specialists (Coordinators & Analysts) who are dedicated to managing the benefits of our near-term investment portfolio and aligning them with our strategic goals.
As part of the Investment Management leadership team, you’ll help shape the future of the function, supporting the integration of our transformation initiatives to enhance our capabilities and deliver better service to our customers.
This role involves driving implementation of strategic portfolio management improvements, including the roll-out of benefits management processes developed within the Sustainable Investment Decision Making (SIDM) transformation project. You’ll be instrumental in embedding these processes across the organisation and working with key stakeholders to ensure they’re seamlessly adopted.
You’ll also be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a consistent approach to benefits management across the portfolio, ensuring our benefits realisation aligns with Scottish Water’s long-term objectives. You’ll engage closely with stakeholders to understand their needs, communicate the progress and outcomes of our benefits realisation efforts, fostering transparency and alignment with our strategic goals.
Additionally, you’ll analyse benefits data to assess the effectiveness of our management practices, providing valuable insights that support improved investment planning and more informed decision-making across the organisation.
What you’ll need
You’ll bring a proven track record of successfully delivering and embedding change outcomes, with a result-driven approach to achieving customer outcomes on time and to the desired quality. You’re able to meet challenging targets and deadlines while engaging confidently with senior internal and sector stakeholders. With strong analytical skills and an eye for detail, you have a solid ownership mentality and a passion for working in a dynamic, visible environment.
A strategic thinking and learning mindset is important for this role, hence your background includes strong data analysis capabilities and a knack for solving complex problems is important. You possess confident communication and presentation skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear, simple key messages.
Additionally, you’re skilled in influencing and gaining consensus, which supports decision-making across teams. Flexibility is a key part of your approach, allowing you to adapt and manage shifting priorities effectively.
Driving license is nice to have but not essential.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 8. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £48,900. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £68,510.
In November 2024, we are moving to a 35hr week to support the wellbeing and work/life balance of our employees.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on 28th October. And we’re aiming to do interviews for this role w/c 4th or 11th November.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party, and must be completed before your start date. Don’t worry - we’ll only start these checks once you’ve accepted an offer.
A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We’re also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you’ll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
