Description:

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Under the direction of the Business Intelligence and Research Services (BIRS) leadership team, collect, aggregate, and analyze data from multiple sources to provide quantitative and qualitative data analysis and reporting of patterns, insights, and trends to decision-makers. Conduct thorough data validation and quality assurance procedures in keeping with data governance policies. Respond to data consumer and institutional reporting needs with self-service solutions, dashboards or other business intelligence assets. Support university compliance or other required reporting of institutional data and key metrics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree or any combination of education and experience totaling four years. Related degrees might include: Administration (Educational, Public, or Business), Behavioral Science, Research/Evaluation, Information Systems, etc.Administration, Education Administration, Business Administration, Research/Evaluation and three years of related experience totaling nine years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge

  • SQL and relational databases.
  • Proficient with business intelligence tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.) and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Azure data environment, data lakes, and warehouses.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques & methodologies (i.e., hypothesis testing, correlations, regression, etc.). Knowledge of business metrics, trends, and forecasting.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to transform questions into insights using quantitative and/or qualitative data and data tools.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to understand the data needs of a variety of individuals and present complex information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of data mining techniques, predictive analytics.
  • Knowledge of privacy and compliance, especially in a higher education environment (including FERPA, HIPPA, etc.).
  • Understanding of Higher Education terms and reporting metrics (IPEDs, etc.).

  • Strong skills in verbal and written communication, both in informal and formal contexts; professional demeanor.
  • Strong skills in the effective visualization of data and use of analytics tools and data languages (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Python, SQL) to develop business intelligence assets and tell data stories.

Responsibilities:

  • Analysis: Collect and analyze large datasets from various sources to identify trends, patterns, and insights to support decision makers. Provide input on the development, validation, and maintenance of efficient data models. Produce actionable reports that visualize key performance indicators, provide insights into potential areas for improvement, and present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Data Integrity: Follow data governance policies and procedures to ensure accurate documentation of institutional data, relevant sources, and associated reports or other business intelligence assets. Conduct thorough data validation and quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency of reports. Identify data gaps or inconsistencies and work with data stewards to resolve issues to improve data integrity.
  • Reporting and tools: Provide self-service reporting solutions and respond to ad-hoc report requests. Use analytics and metrics to design and implement self-service reports, dashboards, or other business intelligence assets that meet data consumer needs while reducing institutional dependence on repetitive, manual reporting processes.
  • Prepare data files and reports for institutional compliance, including IPEDS, USHE, or other external audiences. Ensure timely availability, accuracy, and usability of these critical institutional reports.
