Role Title
Bilingual (French) Underwriting Auditor
Purpose of role
Join our team of experienced underwriting auditors and play a critical role in maintaining the accuracy and quality of our business. Using your strong analytical skills and underwriting knowledge to determine if a policy was issued under the correct premium class. Your responsibilities will include analyzing medical and/or financial records along with gathering information from various sources to arrive at an informed conclusion.
Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Order required APS, and or other information. Research, interpret and analyze information relevant to the policy, including product details, applicant insurance history and other relevant sources, including access to confidential medical information related to the applicant through the Medical Information Bureau (MIB).
  • Efficiently document all relevant findings on the underwriting systems and complete a full underwriting assessment with the information obtained to evaluate the applicant’s risk profile and to confirm the contract was issued with the appropriate premium class.
  • Responsible for determining if remedial action is required for existing policy, which could include rescission or reformation of contract. Access to consult with Medical Director and Chief Underwriter for those more complex underwriting cases.
  • Utilize communication skills to effectively relay decisions to the producer and applicant.
  • Compose related correspondence to advise the applicant and agent of the decision to rescind or reform in the applicant’s language of choice (French or English).
  • Maintain accurate records and statistics regarding the actions taken.
  • On occasion review insurance application files for new business, reinstatements and change requests if and as time allows during slow periods.

Key Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in both English and French.
  • A minimum of 4 years of underwriting and/or claims experience.
  • Experience and ability to effectively read and interpret Attending Physician Statements
  • A solid grasp of underwriting theory, principles, methods, systems, processes and standards, with a proven ability to effectively apply them.
  • Exceptional risk assessment skills, with the ability to make accurate underwriting decisions.
  • Ability to consistently communicate the underwriting decision to the producer and on occasion discuss in greater detail, in a way that aligns with Foresters’ policies and standards.
  • A commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Knowledge of life insurance, and/or critical illness products, as well as simplified or Final Expense type products are an asset.
  • Ability to learn and understand in detail, the Foresters insurance products and their respective contact provisions.
  • ALU courses desired but not required.
