A BIM Modeler with a focus on MEP (or) ELV systems typically holds a role that involves creating and managing 3D models for building systems, particularly in the context of MEP and ELV integration. This role is critical in ensuring that all building systems are well-coordinated and fit within the overall design of the project. Here are some of the typical responsibilities and skills associated with this job role:

Key Responsibilities:

• BIM Model Creation:
• Design and develop 3D models for MEP and ELV systems using BIM software (e.g., Revit, Navisworks).
• Develop detailed models for HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and ELV systems (like fire alarm, security, data cabling, etc.).
• Ensure the coordination of MEP and ELV systems with architectural and structural models.
• Use BIM tools to perform clash detection between MEP, ELV, and other building systems, ensuring that potential conflicts are resolved before construction begins.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to resolve issues
• Generate detailed construction documents, including plans, elevations, and sections for MEP and ELV systems.
• Ensure that all necessary documentation complies with local standards and regulations.
• Ensure the integration of ELV systems (e.g., lighting, fire alarm systems, IT, CCTV) with the MEP systems.
• Work to ensure that the design complies with relevant standards and regulations.
• Collaborate closely with MEP engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure that the design is constructible.
• Participate in design reviews and coordination meetings.
• Provide support during the construction phase by updating the BIM models with any design changes or on-site adjustments.
• Assist with the implementation of “as-built” models and ensure accurate model documentation.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Particularly Revit (for MEP), AutoCAD, Navisworks, or other BIM tools specific to the MEP and ELV industry.
• A solid understanding of the design and integration of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and ELV systems.
• Ability to accurately model complex systems, ensuring all components fit together and meet standards.
• Experience in resolving conflicts and clashes in the model before construction begins.
• Ability to collaborate with a diverse team, including engineers, architects, and project managers.
• Knowledge of building codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, IEEE) related to MEP and ELV systems.

Software Tools:

• Revit MEP (for modeling mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems)
• Navisworks (for clash detection and coordination)
• AutoCAD (for traditional 2D drafting)
• BIM 360 (for project collaboration and document management)
• MEP-specific plugins (e.g., for lighting design, electrical load calculations)
