The Michael group studies how transcription factors and cofactors interact with chromatin in cells and in vitro to regulate gene expression. To do so, we combine cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM and cryo-ET) with a host of other biophysical, biochemical, in-silico, and in-vivo methods. Previous experience in any of these fields/methods would be advantageous, but is not strictly required as a prerequisite. The position will be centered around maintaining and assuring the overall efficient running of the laboratory. We are looking for a proactive team member to support us with the following tasks:

  • Taking a lead position in the lab organization (training users, managing stocks, ordering consumables, keeping our database up to date)
  • Implementation of new equipment and techniques in the wet laboratory and assistance in experimental setups
  • Mediating interactions with our Scientific Service Units (e.g. Electron Microscopy facility, Lab Support facility, etc)
  • Developing and optimizing protein production protocols
  • Supporting internal and external users with using laboratory infrastructure and reporting results
  • Being part of an interactive group of students, postdocs, and technicians with diverse backgrounds

Your Profile

  • Completed studies in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or other relevant fields
  • Experience in protein production and purification
  • Experience in characterizing proteins with biophysical and biochemical techniques
  • Experience in cryo-EM is a plus
  • Knowledge of chromatin biology and/or insect, mammalian or algal cell cultures is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills, reliability and a sense of responsibility
  • Proactive personality with a solution-oriented approach
