Description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 4 Biological Specimen Coordinator, within the haematology research department to work across our Sutton and Chelsea branches.
This is a pivotal role and you will be part of a multidisciplinary team including experienced medical and research staff, taking part in an exciting range of clinical research studies.
The successful applicant will be required to work as a self directed practitioner and have the skills to motivate others. They should also have a flexible approach to their duties and the ability to work both as part of the team as well as independently. In addition, you will have excellent communication, administrative and IT skills and be supportive and open to new initiatives. Continuous professional development is highly valued and supported.
The main focus of the post is to support the research team in all aspects of the trials/studies on a day to day basis, with supporting the processing, storage and shipment of clinical trial-related samples.
It is expected that the successful candidate will have venepuncture skills and have experience of working in a hospital environment.

Working independently on a daily basis but as an integral part of a busy research department and be responsible for supervision and collection of patient samples for ongoing studies
Collecting archival and new tissue samples, processing and labelling samples, managing the collection and storage of samples in the appropriate conditions (efridges/freezers at -70oC/liquid nitrogen)
Receiving samples in-house and travelling off site for retrieval of relevant material

To ensure the timely and efficient collection of tissue and fluid samples
To send and retrieve samples from external Biobank facilities
Distribute samples to research groups, laboratories, commercial and academic sponsors
To ensure samples are packed, labelled and handled appropriately, according to IATA specification
