The Junior Professorship for Sensory Sciences at the Faculty of Sciences at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is an innovative position dedicated to research and application in sensory sciences. The aim of this professorship is to gain new insights into the human senses and their influence on chemical and pharmaceutical products. Your Tasks

  • Independent extraction and dissection of primary neurons from rodents and cultivation of cell lines and primary cells
  • Autonomous execution of genetic manipulations (e.g. transfection and transduction) using lentiviral and adenoviral vectors (Safety level S2)
  • Support in laboratory organization, including equipment maintenance, inventory management and documentation of workflows
  • Adherence to operating procedures and ensuring compliance with safety and institutional policies
  • Methodical teaching of students and support in preparation of experiments

Your Profile

  • Completed training as a biological-technical assistant (BTA) and comparable qualification with
  • First professional experience in the specified field of activity
  • Training in Molecular Biology and Cell Biology
  • FELASA certificate and experience in extraction and dissection of tissue from rodents
  • In-depth practical experience with cell cultures
  • Experience with genetic engineering techniques and work in facilities at biosafety level S2 desirable
  • Basic computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Very good knowledge of English (at least C1 level)
  • General interest in neurobiology and biomaterials
  • Work in a precise, careful and a well-structured way with recurring tasks
  • Confident and friendly demeanor, with a service-oriented mentality
  • Ability to work in a team in a multinational environment

Supplementary description
Initial 1-year project-based contract with the possibility for extension.
