QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field, with 5-10 years of related experience. Combination of relevant education and/or experience will be considered
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in Geographic Information Systems
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in remote field work and leading research projects, preferably in Inuit Nunangat
- Experience working in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience in Microsoft Project is considered an asset.
- Excellent time management skills that include balancing short-term and immediate work commitments with varying priorities and deadlines
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and diverse communities
- Willingness to travel and work in remote situations in a variety of environmental conditions
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Director of Environment, the Biologist will:
- In partnership with the Research Manager, develop, plan and conduct studies of the environment, and of the population, distribution, movement, and behaviour of plants and wildlife
- Lead biological related programming and conduct ecological and environmental impact studies and prepare reports
- Organize, verify and analyze a variety of data collected through research and monitoring programs
- Liaise and coordinate with academic, government, non-government organizations and other relevant partners on research and monitoring programs
- Support or sit as a member to Inuit Nunangat or Federal Government biodiversity or biological tables or committees
- Assist with the development and implementation of community and regional research studies and projects to promote environmental protection and sustainable development.
- Assist and support the Nunatsiavut Government’s participation in federal and provincial environmental assessments and environmental reviews of initiatives under the Nunatsiavut Environmental Protection Act
- Participate in relevant permit review processes
- Support the Geographic Information System needs of the Environment Division
- Assist in the day-to-day operations at the Nunatsiavut Research Centre
- Other duties as required
