Description:

The Cambridge Stem Cell Institute is an international centre of excellence for stem cell research and regenerative medicine. Scientists in the Institute collaborate to advance our knowledge of various stem cell types and to perform pioneering work in translational research areas, providing the foundation for new medical treatments (https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/).
Applications are invited for a Biomedical Research Technician position in the group of Dr Mekayla Storer within the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (CSCI) based at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. Our group is focused on understanding why mammals do not regenerate their limbs following amputation. Surprising, it has been shown that some mammalian digit tips (including mice and humans) can regenerate following removal of the tip, demonstrating that mammals are capable of innate tissue regeneration.
The successful candidate will provide support for researchers that investigate digit tip regeneration in mice to gain a broad understanding of which cells and molecular pathways are necessary for this process.
We are seeking a developmental biologist with prior experience of laboratory-based research and expertise in handling mice. The successful candidate will be expected to support the research team by providing technical assistance in the research projects and recording data from experiments. As such, the candidate should have good interpersonal skills, be organized and pay attention to detail. Other responsibilities include a wide range of tasks to ensure the smooth running of the laboratory, including ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies, as well as maintaining and updating protocols and reagent databases.
An understanding of the principles of cellular and molecular biology (histology, DNA & RNA extraction, cell culture) or computational experience would be desirable.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31st October 2026 in the first instance with prospect of renewal.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a security check.
Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Mekayla Storer on ms2786@cam.ac.uk.
