Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Biomedical Science Assistant within the department of Blood Sciences
As a suitably trained individual you will work in a busy, modern laboratory undertaking data entry and initial processing of patient samples in supporting the Associate practitioners and Biomedical Scientists
Duties also include answering requests and providing test results by telephone and additional clerical duties.
Proficiency in the use of keyboard together with good communication and team-working skills are required. Also essential is an aptitude in both numeracy and literacy together with the ability to work accurately.
Candidates will be expected to work variable shifts (including nights, weekends and Bank Holidays) and will be expected to work on the Barnsley site in order to deliver the necessary service.
Pre-analytical processing of samples to include the receipt, preparation and processing. Store, retrieve and dispose of biological material according to the relevant procedures.
Deal with direct queries from medical Staff, Nursing Staff and other Service Users including telephone enquiries and taking appropriate action as necessary.
Assist in maintaining high scientific and technical standards.
Promote and maintain a high standard of relevant education and training.
Adhere to all Trust and departmental policies.
Maintains clinical records in relation to activities carried out and may input/interrogate test results of others.
May be required to supervise, organise and allocate work and/or train less experienced staff in own area.
The SYB Blood Sciences department provides a complete analytical and diagnostic service to inpatients, outpatients, general practitioners and supports emergency medicine 24/7 across the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw region and beyond.
Services include Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Blood Transfusion, and Coagulation.
