NIGHT SHIFT:
19:30-08:30
The expected shift pattern for this post are 12.5 hour night shifts.
The post holder will be an experienced Biomedical Scientist who works as part of a team undertaking both urgent and routine Haematology and Blood transfusion testing in order to provide safe and reliable results. The post holder will also carry out day to day tasks in accordance with UKAS 15189 and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and local standard operating procedures. Work will be undertaken with much autonomy but under the overall responsibility of the Head of Haematology and the Head of Blood Transfusion. Knowledge of Quality Management Systems such as Q-Pulse as a tool for incident and change management is essential for this role.
The role will involve performing appropriate haematological and blood transfusion investigations, providing a cross-site, 24/7 service. The post holder will be experienced in a laboratory setting who works as part of a team to ensure urgent and routine Haematology and Blood Transfusion testing, pre-transfusion testing, other specialist investigations are carried out in a timely manner. This is essential in to provide reliable results to the clinical teams and to provide safe, compatible blood components and products for patients who require transfusion or for antenatal monitoring.

Responsibilities:
A vacancy has arisen for a Full Time experienced Biomedical Scientist (BMS) in our Haematology and Blood Transfusion Department based at the North Middlesex University Hospital. North Middlesex University Hospital is one of London’s busiest acute hospitals, serving more than 350,000 people living in Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest.
Every day, on average, we see 500 patients in A&E; 15 babies are born in our maternity unit; about 450 inpatients are cared for on our wards; about 50 patients have major or minor surgery in one of our 10 operating theatres; and about 800 people attend our outpatients clinics. The Haematology and Blood Transfusion Service at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is provided by Health Services Laboratories (HSL). The HSL Haematology and Blood Transfusion department provide an essential 24/7 service to the patients under the care of North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust. North Middlesex University Hospital has a SHT (Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Team) caring for over 500 patients with inherited red cell disorders many of whom have complex, regular blood transfusion requirements.
The role will involve working alongside other members of the laboratory BMS, MLA and management team and aid in undertaking Haematology and Blood Transfusion investigations, providing a cross-site, 24/7 service.
The laboratory operates a 37.5 hour working week spread over a shift rota.
