A vacancy has arisen for a Biomedical Scientist with HCPC registration. Those who already have their specialist portfolio or equivalent will be eligible for a Band 6 post. We would also consider a trainee BMS who has an IBMS accredited degree and is within a year of completing their training.
The successful candidate will be part of a team providing an efficient, high quality diagnostic service through participation in the specialist technical and scientific operations within the Blood Science Department.
The department is fully equipped with Roche Cobas 8000 analytical lines, TOSOH G11’s, Sysmex XN, Sysmex CN and Grifols Eflexis analysers.
It will be a contractual requirement to participate in the 24/7 shift system.

As an IBMS approved training laboratory, we encourage and support all Band 5 staff to obtain the IBMS Specialist Diploma. For Band 6 staff, we encourage and support staff in achieving the IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma to enable career progression.
The laboratory is UKAS accredited.

If you are applying as a secondment, please gain approval from your current manager before applying.
To carry out the analysis of patient samples, quality controls (QC) and external quality assessment samples (EQA) according to departmental SOPs and departmental Quality Assurance Policy.
To ensure that specialist equipment within the area of work is functioning efficiently through good housekeeping, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
Technical validation of patient results.
Communicate effectively with clinicians, nurses and other service users on information of a technical nature.
To undertake shift work including evening, weekend and night work. This will involve working mostly alone and includes the provisional authorisation of results that are used for immediate patient management, carrying potentially serious consequences if any errors occur in the process.
